About Canadian Native Friendship Centre
The mandate of the CNFC is to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal people in an urban environment by supporting self-determined activities, encouraging equal access and participation in Canadian society all the while respecting Aboriginal cultural distinctiveness. The Canadian Native Friendship Centre is a non-profit, charitable, community service organization serving the Edmonton region since 1962. From a drop-in centre where newly arrived Aboriginal people could mingle and socialize within a house on 108 Street, the Centre has evolved to a multi-functional building in the city centre where programs and services are offered to members and the general public. We are proud of having developed and maintained a positive profile over the past forty-plus years and we are recognized for our promotion of tolerance and cross-cultural awareness among the citizens of Edmonton and area.
Community Outreach
Jackie’s work in Community Outreach will include a survey to determine what programs and services the centre should be delivering.
Health & Wellness
We have a new position in the way of a Health and Wellness Coordinator. Dean Brown will be developing and implementing health and wellness programs for the centre.
CNFC Governance
In June 2008, the CNFC Board of Directors signed an MOU to re-structure the current governance structure, and develop a new structure that would consider the two governing bodies of the Centre. These are the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors. This is currently in the works. Watch for Community consultations being planned for February and March.
DONATE 2009
A Fund Development Plan consisting of a variety of Fund raising techniques will be implemented throughout 2009. This plan has been developed in conjunction with the transition that is occurring within the Centre.
A donor program where individuals can donate to the CNFC is one technique where our charitable tax number can be utilized and the CNFC can access the Community Spirit Program offered by the Alberta Government.
Several fundraiser events are also in the works, watch for details. Regular grant proposal development continues for continued operation of regular programs and services.
